1.Aircraft Maintenance Technician.
Aircraft Maintenance Technicians (AMT's) keep aircraft of various sizes and types in excellent working order. They complete inspections, perform scheduled maintenance, make any necessary repairs, and alteration of aircraft and aircraft systems. In the US, aircraft maintenance technicians usually refer to themselves as A&Ps, for airframe and powerplant mechanics.
2.Pilot.
Airline and commercial pilots fly and navigate airplanes or helicopters. Airline pilots fly for airlines that transport people and cargo on a fixed schedule. Commercial pilots fly aircraft for other reasons, such as charter flights, rescue operations, firefighting, aerial photography, and crop dusting.
3.Air Cabin Crew.
The cabin crew on an aircraft are the people whose job is to look after the passengers.
Job description.
The role of an air cabin crew member is to
provide excellent customer
service to passengers while ensuring their comfort and safety
throughout the flight. They are trained to deal with security and emergency
situations which may arise and can administer first aid to passengers.
Cabin crew ensure that
all emergency equipment is in working order prior to take off and that there
are enough supplies for passengers. They also help passengers to board the
plane and give a demonstration of safety procedures and equipment.
Air cabin crew strive to
make the flying experience a pleasant one for the passengers and will serve
refreshments and meals and sell gifts and duty-free items. Cabin crew may work
on short or long-haul flights.
Typical work activities.
Tasks may vary slightly
depending on whether it is a short or long-haul flight and the size of the team
you are working in. However, they typically include:
- attending a pre-flight briefing, during which air cabin crew are assigned their working positions for the upcoming flight. Crew are also informed of flight details, the schedule and if there are passengers with any special requirements, such as diabetic passengers, passengers in wheelchairs or the number of infants on board;
- carrying out pre-flight duties, including checking the safety equipment, ensuring the aircraft is clean and tidy, ensuring that information in the seat pockets is up to date and that all meals and stock are on board;
- welcoming passengers on board and directing them to their seats;
- informing passengers of the aircraft safety procedures and ensuring that all hand luggage is securely stored away;
- checking all passenger seat belts and galleys are secure prior to take-off;
- making announcements on behalf of the pilot and answering passenger questions during the flight;
- serving meals and refreshments to passengers;
- selling duty-free goods and advising passengers of any allowance restrictions in force at their destination;
- reassuring passengers and ensuring that they follow safety procedures correctly in emergency situations;
- giving first aid to passengers where necessary;
- ensuring passengers disembark safely at the end of a flight and checking that there is no luggage left in the overhead lockers;
- completing paperwork, including writing a flight report.
4.Aircraft Maintenance Engineer (AME).
Aircraft engineers are crucial because they certify whether the plane is fit to fly.
Aircraft maintenance engineers install, maintain and repair
aircraft engines, airframes, airframe systems, electrical systems, instrument
and radio systems and aircraft sheet-metal.
Aircraft maintenance engineers may perform the following tasks:
- dismantle,
inspect and reassemble aircraft engines, electrical systems and aircraft
frames
- test aircraft
communication equipment, instruments and electronic systems
- install
electrical circuits and equipment
- conduct routine
pre-flight inspections.
Specialisations:
Aircraft Maintenance Engineer (Avionics)
An aircraft maintenance engineer (avionics) maintains, inspects
and undertakes fault diagnosis of electrical, electronic, instrument and radio
systems, components and accessories on aircraft. These include generator and
power distribution systems, protection systems, autopilot and integrated flight
systems, environmental control systems and radar and communication systems.
Aircraft Maintenance Engineer (Mechanical)
An aircraft maintenance engineer (mechanical) maintains, inspects
and undertakes fault diagnosis of airframe and engine systems, components and
accessories on aircraft. These include landing gears; wheels and brakes;
pressurisation, pneumatic and hydraulic systems; flight control systems;
environmental control systems; fire detection and prevention systems; oxygen
systems; the undercarriage; and ice and rain protection systems.
Aircraft Maintenance Engineer (Structures)
An aircraft maintenance engineer (structures) produces, maintains
and repairs sheet-metal bonded and non-metallic composite material and
components on aircraft. They must be familiar with airframe, engine and
electrical components. They carry out a wide variety of metal forming and
joining processes using hand and power tools, and work with various
fibre-reinforced plastic materials.
Personal Requirements:
- enjoy technical
and engineering activities
- medically fit,
with good hearing and vision (colour blindness may make people unsuitable
for some aircraft trades)
- good hand-eye
coordination
- able to
concentrate
